Mike Skinner wins the inaugural race of the NASCAR SuperTruck Series, passing Terry Labonte in the final turn. He would holdout for a .09 second margin of victory, in what was the main feature of the 18th Annual Copper World Classic.Starting in 16th place, it only took 33 laps for Skinner to pass polesitter Ron Hornaday Jr., who was driving the #16 Chevy for Dale Earnhardt, Inc.. Hornaday would eventually finishing in ninth, leading a total of 26 laps on the day. Runner-up Labonte, in Rick Hendrick’s #5 DuPont Chevy, started in third and would collect $12500 for his days work. For his own efforts, Skinner was awarded $15750 in prize money, leading a race-high 30 laps of the scheduled 80. Running the full 20-race schedulein the #3 Goodwrench Chevrolet, he would win a total of eight races in 1995, easily capturing the first championship in series history.
